We’ve all heard of those OTT pat-downs at airports, and you may have had one (I am planning to refuse next time I’m flying, I do not want more radiation entering my body via the x-rays).
Now whistleblower and former Governor Jesse Ventura is suing the TSA, the Transportation Security Administration (can’t they just choose shorter names for this groups?).
He says he was sexually assaulted. And I concur. If someone were to touch your genital area, your boobs, and everywhere else in touchy feely gestures, you’d feel assualted too. But when they have a uniform and name badge on whilst doing it, it makes it somehow legal? What a crazy world.
Jesse Ventura filed the complaint this Monday morning (24th Jan) in the U.S. District Court for Minnesota, Ventura is suing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its secretary, Janet Napolitano, as well as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and its administrator, John Pistole.
Ventura accuses the agencies of violating his “basic rights to privacy and dignity, and his right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures,” after he received a pat-down by a TSA agent at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in November 2010.
Ventura alleges the pat-down included “warrantless, non-suspicion-based offensive touching, gripping and rubbing of the genital and other sensitive areas of his body,” which, the lawsuit contends, met “the definition for an unlawful sexual assault.”
Ventura’s attorney, David Olsen said Ventura will no longer fly on commercial aviation, putting his job as host of cable television’s ‘Conspiracy Theory’ show, in jeopardy.
“He sees the erosion of civil liberties here and he’s willing to stand up not only for himself, but for others,” said Olsen.
But he fights the 3D view of ‘Well we need to have security, just look at what happened in Moscow’. And the view that says terrorism is a big threat. But who actually hyped up the whole terrorism agenda in the first place? They create the problems, they find “solutions” for “us”, then they shaft us.
I’ll be keeping an eye on how this lawsuit goes. It’s about much more than pat-downs.
Here’s the lawsuit document.
