In this post I want to share a few things:
A guided meditation by Shunyamurti and a couple of videos about Ram Dass and Maharajji (real name: Neem Karoli Baba). It is Maharajji who gets the photo on this post – an amazing enlightened being who can teach us so much. First, the meditation…
Guided meditation by Shunyamurti
Beginning with a deep relaxation, this guided meditation with Shunyamurti is designed to help you enter into a deep meditative state. Recorded during the Meditation Weekend on Friday, March 13, 2015.
Ram Dass – Fierce Grace
I have been watching videos of Ram Dass for some time, I find him such a lovable, human and courageous spiritual ‘warrior’ if I can call him that. The video below is particularly fascinating – it’s all about his own journey starting with his quite privileged background and travels to India where he met Maharajji. (Video of footage of Maharajji coming up under the next video below.)
The thing I like about Ram Dass is his humility and courage to say that he had basically been coming from ego during his early years when he was giving talks. I must say it was uplifting to hear him be so honest. I mean, I do wonder about those who have taken up the mantle of ‘spiritual teacher’ – what about their own growing journey beyond ego and sharing this with their ‘students’? I’m referring to those who always seem to have that ‘saintly’ sort of demeanour. I guess some people are more authentic than others. I remember speaking to a fairly well-known spiritual teacher to ask if I could interview him about his life and he flatly declined saying he only speaks about truth. You can form your own conclusions but needless to say I didn’t interview him.
So a spiritual teacher who is sitting on a podium and speaking ‘as one of the audience’ – ie without ego – is a true spiritual warrior in my book. And Ram Dass seems to be like this.
Neem Karoli Baba Original Footage & Recordings
Neem Karoli Baba or Neeb Karori Baba(died September 11, 1973), also known to followers as Maharaj-ji, was a Hindu guru and devotee of the Hindu deity Hanuman. He is known outside India for being the guru of a number of Americans who travelled to India in the 1960s and 1970s, the most well-known being the spiritual teachers Ram Dass and Bhagavan Das, and the musicians Krishna Dasand Jai Uttal. His ashrams are in Kainchi, Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Shimla, Bhumiadhar, Hanuman Gadi, Lucknow, Delhi in India and in Taos, New Mexico, USA.
Alongside the wonderful old footage of Maharaji, if you like authentic Indian music, you may also like the songs on this video – I love them.
Yad karne se ham ajate hain
When you remember me I come to you
There is some great information about Mahariji on this site: quotes, stories of things he said and did – a treasure house if you want to find out more about this great sage.
