Sacred Music Playlist

Do you feel the longing?  No, not for chocolate……just kidding.  I mean the longing to be close to the Divine, to God?  Do you, like me, feel it with every fiber of your being sometimes?

For many years now I’ve felt a longing for God, even before awakening – though I never knew what this longing was till after awakening, when impartial understanding arose as opposed to the emotionalism I used to feel so often.  And now, it’s like I’m off centre if I go too long without being a part of (listening to) devotional music.  For in the space that arises when sacred music is there, one can feel a peace, a ‘just so’, a peaceful beingness.  Sometimes, listening to such beautiful tracks can feel as if the heart can’t contain the feelings and yearning.  It’s Grace that brings such a shower of feeling.

I don’t differentiate between the music of different religions – if it’s sacred, it’s sacred.  For example, Amazing Grace is truly amazing.  On this note you will find a beautiful free version of Amazing Grace by Krishna Das at the bottom of the Free Resources for Spiritual Seekers page (registration required), along with other beautiful free Krishna Das pieces, that are not (I presume) on Youtube.

So I’ve put together a little collection of sacred songs including Krishna Das, Snatam Kaur, Craig Pruess, Gayatri Mantra, How Great Thou Art (a cool rendition)  and others.  It’s an eclectic collection.  The first video below is the playlist of all tracks, and then the individual tracks are below that in case that’s preferable.  Sadly YouTube places ads at the start and throughout some of the videos, so we have to live with that.  I think most (all?) ads that appear in the middle of songs can be left to just play and then the track resumes, if you don’t wish to keep clicking out of the ads.

Krishna Das – Om Namah Shivaya

Mantra – Om Namah Shivaya

Sacred Chants of Shiva – Craig Pruess

Mother Divine – Craig Pruess

Snatam Kaur

“Ek ong kar sat nam siri waheguru” means “One creator created this creation. Truth is His Name. Great beyond description is His Infinite Wisdom.”

Gayatri Mantra with Lyrics

Gayatri Mantra is a universal prayer.  The words in English are:

AUM
bhoor bhuvah svah
tat savitur varenyam
bhargo devasya dheemahi
dhiyo yo nah prachodayaat
If you learn the Gayatri Mantra by heart and repeat it as you go about your day, it is meant to bestow great illumination and happiness.  It’s meaning is: We meditate on that most beloved Supreme Lord, the creator, whose effulgent divine light illumines all three realms, physical, mental and spiritual. May this divine light illumine our intellect.

How Great Thou Art

Jai Uttal – Hara Hara Mahadev / Om Namah Shivaya

Deva Premal – Moola Mantra

Mahamrityunjaya Mantra – Sacred Sound Choir, Ancient Chant For Healing & Peace

Namaste
