spiritual awakening event

Tony Parsons will be speaking again on 3rd November 2012 in London and all being well, I should be going again, as the last one was interesting. I say all being well, as my Dad is having a major operation a few days before, but it is possible I think to go see him either before or after the talk if I do need to go on that Saturday.  So, it will be as before – meet in Starbucks across the road from Hampstead tube station. A couple of people who went last time have said they will be going again.

Here are the details:

OPEN DISCUSSIONS

120 Heath Street, Hampstead, LONDON, NW3

I’m drawn to Tony because he is one of the few (actually I haven’t come across anyone else with exactly the same non-person message) whose message makes sense, logically and energetically, and he is not, as he says, selling anything, or trying make his message sound suitably ‘spiritual.’

Many other non-dual messages are trying to get people to achieve something, but in truth there is nothing that can be achieved – at least not by an individual attached to his identity. By ‘Grace’ though, yes. And this is not something you can do yourself. It’s a bummer for some people who seek it so dearly, but there it is. And such a desperate need for enlightenment is also Grace! In some ways, you could say it’s totally but wonderfully frustrating!

So, though we can’t make realization happen, I do feel however, much clearing can be done – not for the sake of making realization happen, but just because realization is unlikely to happen unless the decks are cleared or cleared to some extent.

A couple of videos about / of Tony:

Tony Parsons – Buddha at the Gas Pump

Hope to see you on 3rd Nov. Please text me if you wish to meet up (click the contact button to the right to get my no), even on the day itself. Let’s meet at Starbucks by 1.15 – 1.25pm. We’ll get to the venue about 20 mins before at least to get front seats. If I really can’t make it, I’ll post on this blog to let you know.

Comments, as always welcome.

Love,

well if 130 people show up as you said in his last meeting that’s 1,300 pounds. a nice piece of change for a talk. then he has those week end meetings at 80 euros plus those “residentials” where you have to contact him for the price.
if he wants to make money from it and people want to pay fine, whatever.
to me it’s still a bit deceptive because there’s really nothing he can do for anyone and why charge for what can’t be purchased.
gangaji, tolle, byron katie and others have gotton very wealthy playing the guru game. those “retreats” and “residentials” really pull in the cash.

tom, what is it that is behind your ‘beef’ about people making money in this way?
“to me it’s still a bit deceptive because there’s really nothing he can do for anyone and why charge for what can’t be purchased.” –> Well, it’s not quite as literal as that, since if he wasn’t there to say ‘there’s nothing to sell’ people wouldn’t hear that message, right? They’d go on thinking they have to listent to teachers selling a process.
Yes, Byron Katie has a clever marketing machine, no doubt also Tolle. But I think they charge a whole lot more. Anyway best is to examine one’s own conditioning and hidden views around money, because in itself it’s not good or bad, though we make it so.

does love charge money? do parents charge their children for room and board? if one is really coming from unconditional love and truly sees no other shouldn’t there be a free giving of oneself? so where’s the love with the profiting from others confusion and desperate seeking. i look at the examples of buddha, nisargadatta, ramana and others i’ve previously mentioned.
and jesus said unto them, “there shall be a weekend retreat with charge of 10 silver shekels” lol
i see no problem with charging to cover the room rental, providing snacks and covering the speaker’s travel expenses but when you get into weekenders, retreats and residentials you’re making it a business.
yes ultimately it doesn’t matter. people are giving money to romney and obama who both plan to further destroy their lives. people are paying money to watch old, ugly egomaniacs (the stones) prance around the stage. whatever. there’s room for everything including making non duality a business.
i just like to see those who speak of being unconditional love to practice it.

tom, do you see that hidden in what you say is a belief that says money is bad? Sorry but I just had to say that.
As a hypothesis,
For eg, you say:
do parents charge their children for room and board?
And my response is – err, yeah, if the kids are adults and they’re living at home and sponging off parents like they’re still teenagers LOL (not that I’m talking about MY kids you know – no they’re a perfect pair of young men OF COURSE!)
Noone said unconditional love equals NO CHARGE. Whoever said that? Ramana? Buddha? Nisargadatta? Nope, I don’t remember them saying that 🙂
Money is neutral. Who cares if someone makes a killing from a spiritual message? And if they do, it will just give me fodder for a blog post. But as for £10 a pop – not sure there is much reason to REALLY complain?
tom, come on what’s the deal with you and money? 🙂 It’s just part of the ALL THAT IS – no value judgments, remember?

“to me it’s still a bit deceptive because there’s really nothing he can do for anyone”
Oh but he can, he can entertain them. Unless you’re “naughty” and download torrents, or are prepared to put up with tedious adverts, there’s not a lot of entertainment that comes for free. £10 is a lot cheaper, although perhaps less entertaining, than going to a Rolling Stones Gig 🙂

he says he’s not selling anything yet he charges people to hear him say that! then there’s those 80 euro weekend meetings and i wonder what the charge is for those “residentials”? there are some who truly charge nothing. randall friend, john wheeler, john greven, gilbert schultz are some that i know of.

tom, you would begrudge £10 for a 3 hour talk with refreshments thrown in? I don’t find it a rip off in the slightest, in fact I think a certain amount is perefectly fine to be charged, just not a rip-off big amount. In a world that requires money to do things and get to places, there’s nothing wrong with charging, since one is giving of one’s time and energy. Who says talks should be free? That’s just a value judgment based upon one’s own perception of money. When TP says he’s not selling anything he means the message does not contain a plan of action to get to liberation, he’s not talking about his charges. If one has an issue with the cost then I guess one can simply bypass it and move on to those who one considers more acceptable by offering free talks.
If I write a book and spend hours and hours doing that, then should I not charge for the book? Nope, most definitely I shall charge. Same with anything else that involves time and energy.
Money seems to be an emotive topic, but it’s just a necessary thing/game in this world, and only has a heavy charge (and I don’t mean a financial charge!) due to our own value judgments about it.
